If you're a fan of vintage synthesizers, you may be excited to hear that Arturia has released an update to their popular ARP 2600 V plugin. The new version promises improved sound quality and additional features, but before you rush to instal the new software, you may want to consider whether it's worth the upgrade.

As someone who's been using the ARP 2600 V since its initial release, I have mixed feelings about the update. While I appreciate the efforts Arturia has put into improving the sound quality, I'm not convinced that it's worth shelling out for the new version just yet.

In my experience, many of the old synthesizers included in the collection still sound bad, and the CS-80 emulation is no exception. The prior version was already a long way off from being an accurate representation of the real thing, and I'm not sure that the update has done much to improve it.

That being said, the new engine does seem to be an improvement over the previous one. I've been using it for FM sound design and it's served me well so far. However, I do think that Arturia could have done more to justify the cost of the upgrade. At $199 for existing v8 users, it seems like a lot of money for what you're getting.

Of course, if you're new to the ARP 2600 V or are just looking to get your hands on some vintage synthesizer sounds, then the update may be worth considering. But for those of us who have been using the plugin for a while, I'm not sure that it's worth breaking out the wallet just yet.

Ultimately, whether or not you decide to instal the new Arturia ARP 2600 V will depend on your individual needs and budget. If you're unsure, you may want to wait until Black Friday when the upgrade price is likely to be lower.
